Oberlippenbartpunk (Moustache Punk)

Ooh I'm so excited - this legendary Bootleg compilation from '99 is probably one of the greatest Punkrock comps around and I found it sitting in a Viennese record shop - waiting just for me.

Most of the stuff here clearly draws it's influences from England - from minimalist '77 stylings to the fabulous Pubrock/Powerpop of Jack & The Rippers - except for the Bastards who get a fine Black-Flag-push-and-cronk going with "Danger". (How did that happen, I wonder?)
And who'd have thought that the one person responsible for the fuckin soundtrack to each and every bleedin motor sports TV transmission in the 80s and 90s could produce such urgent and harsh sounds? He oozes urgency, so to say. I'm talkin here of course of Dieter Meier, later part of "Techno pioneers" Yello (god, I hated them). Among the other singles collected here are the Glueams "365" and "Mental" live ep (which is so great, I probably gonna have to jump out of the window) and the "Züri Punx" single from everyone´s favourite Schrengl-Dengl combo Sperma. (This is the version with "Bombs" on the flip - the other one you´ll find on Good Bad Music, go there now and read Erichs piece on Sperma!)
In short, maybe apart from Bellevue's rather uninspired "Marchin´ Men" really every song here is a winner.

Now let's roll the r's like a terrorist, a TERRORIST, A TERRORIST and sing all together "I don´t know where I´m going and I don´t know where I am - my life is in a rut and I´m just like a fucking tram!"

Yes. Great bootleg. Well done, methinks.

Ja, isses. Und wenn man sich das östreichische Zeug aus der Zeit anhört, stinkt das gewaltig gegen die Schweizer ab.
